Helped out at a fund raising event for the NKF yesterday. Yes, while many of you are still sleeping and enjoying your Vesak day holiday away, me and Shihua decided that we should do our part even though it meant waking up really early on a public holiday.
I'm so glad that I did it. The waking up early was well worth it.
I see so many types of people at the temple during entire fund raising event. From the uncles who work at the temple, to all the donors that came forth to lend their support.
The temple had been sponsoring one of the dialysis for many years already. And because they had quite a bit of experience in fund raising, they gave ideas to NKF, thus making the fund raising a real success. And they helped so much in the rallying. They lend their voices, their persuasion. Without them, we may not have collected so much donations!
And the general public who came forward. Yes, many of them donated their $5/$10 because they think that the recipe book/necklace/bracelet/rings are good/pretty/worth it. But I saw so many of them taking out their wallet to purchase them because they want to donate. I saw so many of them putting in extra money. I saw so many of them not wanting to take any little tokens back because they just wanted to donate to us! And, I'm not just talking about $10, but $50 and $100 as well. I see people asking us, "How many more?". And they just wipe out certain stuffs for us. One uncle gave me $150 to buy over our remaining stuffs! And, donate it back to us again to collect even more money (albeit to our dismay because we need to rally even more. Hahaha!)! Every little action they made touched my heart. There is really warmth in this country that I've always been very proud of.
Plus, we also collected quite a bit of donations through whole time the donation box was placed there. So many of them donated!
A little bit goes a looooong way. Never ever think that we are so little that our help is going to be so insignificant. No! Because of everyone's little bit, plus some people's many bit, we will propel ourselves forward!!
I love volunteering work. I love it a lot a lot. I love the fact that I can bring a little bit of joy/comfort/help to the needy. I love the fact that I can help other people. Not just the needy, but also the volunteering companies/organizations. I love to put that smile on their face. I'm so glad that I actually have a little place in a volunteering organization! When the lucky day comes that I can stay at home and be a full-time housewife to take care of my family, I will definitely jump on the chance to give more to the society.
Lord, please continue to bless that we are able to lend our little helping hands to the needy. Please bless me to be able to fulfill my dream of joining CCF to spread my love and smiles to your beautiful children and their parents. Lord, I know I have limited capacity in the things that I want to do, but Lord, give me the ability to spread my love and smiles and care to everyone around me. And please bless me with the energy to continue on even when I am tired physically/mentally. I want to be able to do well in everything that you want me to do. Lord, thank you so much! Amen in Jesus name AMEN!
