Eating in Phuket - Kata Mama

Other than Mali seafood which is more expensive, this was the recommended seafood restaurant that's cheap and good around Kata beach. A place that we dun have to travel far to. Well within walking distance! Goood! It's right at one end of the Kata beach!

The place here is really nice. Nice breeze, nice checkers cloth which is like the must have for any beachside restaurant, light bulbs that's really pretty. And the most important one, cheap and delicious food. =)

They dun really have great coconuts though. I had the only sweet one. Lol! I think coconut is the staple drink/fruit at the beach leh.. LOL!

Pineapple rice is not bad. It's a must eat in Thailand, isnt it? LOL! I find the rice pretty tasteful. Hehs. And the pineapple is sweeet! Yum yum! But too bad, it doesnt have my favourite pork floss on it. Boohoohoo.

Since the name is called Phuket soup, it should be a must try when we are in Phuket right? Haha. Well, it says spicy again. No, it's salty! Lol. And ar, it just tasted like the mee sua soup my mama always cook for me. There's some mee sua in the soup lo. Haha. On top of the meatballs. Well, it's not too bad, but it's not a must eat either!

This is the garlic and pepper prawns. Urm, I was hoping for a similar garlic from the restaurant in Langkawi. But no, nothing like that came. The garlic was quite nice though. But, the prawns are a little too small le ba? Right? Lol. I really think the prawns are extras. I can just have the garlic will do. Lol!

YX says that BBQ squid is a must eat! So, we ordered it. Haha. It's really very nice! It has a BBQ taste in it. Omg, it's. HEAVENLY! I swear. If not, why would we order a second plate? Hahaha. The chili totally made it really really really nice too. Purfect! =) The 2nd plate din fail us too!

So because of the squid, we ordered more bbq stuffs. Hmm. The prawns were like, just prawns. Yes it's fresh, but, there's no BBQ taste in it. So, no way am I going to order BBQ prawn from this place again. Hahahaha!

In the end, we only spend like 880 baht ($30.50) here! Cheap and nice! Me like!

Eating in Phuket - The Orchid

If you are talking about not too bad thai food nearer to our place, Orchid is the one. It's just next to our hotel. You dun even need to go down the slope at all! But, the food was just okok only. Good enough to fill your stomach. And not too bad if you haven went to Chalong for their thai food! Hahahaha!

Ah dear thinks this is nice!

We think that the gravy was nice. This is fried beef with basil leaf. Ya right, their fried is stir fry lo. Lol! But this was good.

The phat thai was not too bad. But it felt about the same as thai express though. Hehs. So, not the standard we should want to find in thailand ba? haha.

Papaya salad is also another must eat in Thailand. It was not too spicy. Taste wise, just ok only ba. Hehs.

The girls tried the tom yum soup too when they reached. Our conclusion: it's not nice! Not spicy and sour enough. Hmm. No good! Hahahaha.

Overall, this place is a good place if you are so hungry that you need food asap and you are just at the hotel. Haha. Other than that, dun need to try because there are so much more better food around!

Eating in Phuket - Two Chefs

Phuket = thailand = thai food! Slurps.

Phuket = beach = fresh seafood! Slurps.

When you go Phuket, you will realize that there are alot of Ang moh ang moh restaurants around. But within the restaurant, there will be both western food and thai food. Something that I find amazing. Haha. But I think, most of the time, the western cuisine taste better than the thai food ba. I want to try their steaks but I would think Singapore would offer better ones. And, why did I even go Thailand for western food? Are you joking? LOL!

But still, I had western food. Hahaha. They are a little difficult to resist, especially when the place look so pretty from the outside and they have pretty good reviews on the internet. Hehs.

One great one I would love to recommend is Two Chefs. It's opened by 2 Swedish chefs but they offer more food than just Swedish cuisine itself. The one we went to was just round the corner of our hotel (we just have to go down the slopes, we can find a lot of food already!). And we only went there for lunch.

The place was rather tastefully decorated, like most of the restaurants you can find at Kata beach itself. =)

I think this should be some Swedish bread. Yums. But Ah dear din think that it was that fantastic actually. Lol. Plain bread was better. Hahaha!

I ordered some mexican food. It's tacos with spicy meat and all the toppings and sauces. So we have to place all the stuffs into the tacos and eat it. Hehs. Hmm. I think, the meat is really very salty and not spicy at all. This is the problem with the Phuket food. They say it's spicy, it turns out to be salty. We still cannot fathom why! Lol! Other than the salty meat, this was rather good.

Since it's by 2 Swedish chefs, we have to try some Swedish food right? The only one we know is the meatballs. Haha. So, Ah dear ordered it. It was really really really really really nice! I can finally understand why everyone in the lab told me that the meatballs from Ikea is not meatballs at all. This one is so soft and yummy. And the whipped potato. Dun even compare. Heaven. =)

Kata Beach

I really love the Kata beach. The breeze, the sound of the waves, the sight. It was like a really peaceful place to me and ah dear. We love the place a lot and we really dun mind just sitting at the beach, looking at the waters, falling aslp while listening to the waves. It was near heaven to us. Haha. Do note that the decks needs rental fees! Hahaha. We paid 100 baht for 1 deck each. LOL! Everything also can earn money de leh. Hehs.

Get a coconut!

The beach is like much choppier during the high tide. But it doesn't really matter. Low tide has huge waves toO!

The sunset there can be really beautiful too~ I really dun mind spending my time just looking at the sun set too. It was sooo calming that I din want to move at all! What's best? It's my favouritest time of the day!

The beach gets less crowded as people get out of the waters to clean up for their dinner. Hehs.

And in the morning, you can find some beachside place to have your breakfast. It's really lovely too. The breeze and the waves while you enjoy your breakfast. Hehs. This is life too!

And if you were to go slightly earlier than sun set, you can take really cool photos too! Hahaha. Although you cannot see the face at all, it's realllly nice! Lol! Ok, I know this has nothing to do with the review. But, hahahahaha!

Just stand there and let the big waves hit you. Gosh. It was really very fun, but tiring. Haha. You will just you know, back a few steps, or get envelop by the waters. Haha. It's SO FUN! I really love doing it leh. So much so that I went there to repeat the same activity twice. LOL! =)

And when the sun sets, think of the dinner! Haha. A beachside place leh! Means, you get nice views and seafooooood!!

Gosh, I really miss the Kata beach already....

Staying at Phuket - Sugar Palm Grand Hillside Hotel

First of all, where to stay at Phuket. Patong beach is the busiest but it's the dirtiest and the nosiest and has most pushy people around. This is something that I would not want on a beach getaway! Karon beach is next to the Patong beach, activities wise are not too bad too. (I'm talking about nightlife). But I never regret choosing Kata beach because it's so much more quiet than the other 2 beaches. Plus, there're good restaurants around too. And, the beach was really nice! But note that, staying at Kata beach means that you have to spend more money getting to all the night activities and the time taken will be like around 20 mins. But if you like nice pubs, Kata beach can offer that!

Next, the hotel to stay at. There's quite a few hotels around the Kata beach. I would say Kata Beach resort is the nearest to the beach, because it's at the beach itself. But it looks expensive to me. The hotel we stayed at, the Sugar Palm Grand Hillside is just a 5 minute walk away. So, it's pretty near. The sister hotel is nearer to the beach! But, I cant rmb why I chose to stay at the Grand Hillside instead. There are seaview rooms at the hotel if you like it. Haha.

Something really terrible about the hotel is the slopes that we have to climb all the time we return to the hotel. Gosh. It was. Woah. Steeeep!

Thank god the slopes this steep can be covered by lifts. Haha. But their lifts are really very mafan also. You have to take to the 4th floor and the walk a distance and then transfer to the next life. We took the highest level room, so we have to take a really long time to return to our room! Haha. I think, maybe rooms 2301 are really good enough. LOL! And by the way, the lift only reaches the 9th floor. So, in order to reach our room, we need to climb some slopes before reaching it. GOSH! But if you were to accept the slopes, this hotel is ok actually. And if you stay in the first few levels, it doesnt really matter anyway.

Of course, this slope back to the hotel lobby is something you cannot escape, unless you are in a car/tuk tuk/bus. Lol!

But in my opinion, I gladly accepted these slopes. Because we never really exercised through our stay there. So, this was like a great workout for us after our heavy meals and before our titbits and volka! LOL! And we can get use to it actually. Haha!

And what makes me love this hotel is really their rooms! We booked a pool access room, meaning that the pool is right outside our balcony!

The moment we feel that it's too hot, we can jump straight into the pool! And when it gets too cold there, we just come out and go into the bathtub of warm water. Oh, this is life..... Hehs.

And our room was kinda roomy too. Even when we squeezed 4 people into the room the last night, it was ok. The bed was big enough for 3 girls and we have a side bed for ah dear. And when me and ah dear sleeps in the bed, it was the first time that we din really disturb each other too much. Like when you toss and turn, you wun really affect the other person! Which was realllly gooood! Haha. What's more? The bed was realllly comfortable! I'm not the only who commented on it! Soft and comfortable. You can practically fall aslp the moment you sit on the bed and especially when you actually go under the bed covers. SHIOK!!

Another thing that I love about the room was the table. It was right in front of the pool. So if you were sitting there with a laptop or something lidat, it's super nice!

Our toilet was pretty big. Separated shower room and bathtub. But as YX said, our shower room doesn't have a drain right outside the door, so it can get a little wet. But it's ok ba. And the bath tub was big! Big enough for ah dear at least. Lol! Which is great! LOL! The entire feel was very cemented. But nice. Lol. You can also roll up the bind at the bathtub if you want to watch TV while in the tub. Haha!

But there's something that I cannot understand about the room is that, why are our sinks outside the toilet? LOL! The pool view ones were in the toilet itself leh. LOL! But we can wash up and wash clothes while someone's in the toilet though. Which is good I think.

Urm, please be tolerant towards the insects you sometimes will see around. We've seen cockroach, dragonfly, spiders, millipedes. LOL! But I dunno why leh, I din revoke when I actually see a cockroach in the room! Hahaha. I guess this was because we are really just next the a lot of trees and nature ba. This is part of nature anyway.

Our view was not too bad, except that it was hard white ceramics. LOL! If only we were 2 rooms to the left, it would be perfect. So, try to avoid 3101 if possible. HAHAHAHA!

We'll just peek at other people's rooms lo.... Hehs. But really, can peek de leh. If you dun draw the curtains. HAHAHAHA!

The lift was pretty state of art, even though it smells really like gee zang. HAHAHAHAHA! It's touch screen de leh. LOL! You need abit of feeling to touch it though. Hehs.

I'm not too sure about other hotels, but the hotel concierge is practically useless. They cannot understand us too much and we cannot understand them. So, we cannot find out where should we go. It was a good taxi driver and Jenny who pointed alot of things for us. They are really the best!!

I miss waking up in the hotel room already. Boo!
