Fukushima 50

Heroes? I guess that's how people call them now. I agree. They are the heros.

It was only after some reading that I realized that they are all technicians who know the plant more than the engineers or the heads do. And they are the lowly paid staffs who many people don't really look up to before the trouble stroked.

That's probably the same as our life isn't it? The brains (aka the prof, the postdocs, the managers, the whatever whatever executives etc) are the people holding the decisions, the money and the power. They can just use one sentence and then people below the hierarchy will start scrambling to get the job done. They may have went through the days of being the people who scrambles but many of them had either forgot how it felt to scramble, or the air up there is really very different.

And so, I admire the groundwork staffs at times. Many of them know the steps so well that they can rant it off without thinking too much. They are more garung because they "been there, done that" and they know even though theory wise is so perfect, practical wise, it's just rubbish. Actions speak louder than words!

So, I wish I would always have the spirits of the groundwork staff. No matter how high I may climb in future, I would not forget how important these people are. If you are one of the person up there, don't you think you should actually stop by and encourage your staffs, thank them and stop demanding the impossible?

To the Fukushima 50, I really admire the sacrifice all of you are willing to make for the better of the whole nation. I feel so touched because I've not really been exposed to heroic stories so often in my life so far. And, all of you are actually doing it silently, just like many of the groundwork staffs in all walks of life. All of you are the heroes! May god bless you!
